雅思听力试卷包括40题，包括4个部分，时长30分钟，考试中题目的难度逐题递增，每答对一题得一分。满分的原始分均为40分，考生依据其原始分获取1-9分的等级分。
首先，每答对一题得一分，对于基础相对比较薄弱的考生，要把第一和第二部分作为得分的重点。如果前面两个部分错误保证在3-5个以内，后面两个部分再做对5-8个，那么基本可以得到5-6分。对于目标分数比较高的考生，前面两个部分的错误一定要尽量控制在3个以内，后面两个部分的错误控制在5个以内，那么7-7.5分就比较容易了。想得到8分或者以上的同学，前面两个部分要保证基本不犯错误，才有可能达到目标。
然后，如果答案是英文字母或数字，你只能填入所需的答案数量的字母或数字。比如，如果一个答案是要求填一个英文字母或数字，那你只能填一个；如果你提供了多个字母或数字，答案就算错。建议大家在在做完题目之后多抄写两次答案，这样就可以避免类似的错误。其次，答案是可以采用大写或小写，专有名字最好写成大写。
9分，成绩极佳，能将英语运用自如，精确、流利并能完全理解（Expert User.Has fully operational command of the language：appropriate，accurate and fluent with complete understanding），需要答对39-40题。
8分，非常良好，能将英语运用自如，只是偶尔不连贯或用词不当，在不熟悉的状况下可能出现误解，对争论复杂细节掌握得相当好（Very good User. Has fully operational command of the language with only occasional unsystematic inaccuracies and inappropriateness.Misunderstandings may occur unfamiliar situations.Handles complex detailed argumentation well），需要答对35-39题。
7分，良好，有能力运用英语，虽然在某些情况下有时会发生不准确、不适当和误解，大致掌握复杂的英语，也理解其全部内容（Good User.Has operational command of the language，though with occasional inaccuracies，inappropriateness and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning），需答对30-34题。
6分，（澳大利亚移民、英国留学分数线）及格，虽然有不准确、不适当和误解发生，但大致能有效地运用英语，能使用并理解相当复杂的英语，特别是在熟悉的情况下（Competent User.Has generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies，inappropriateness and misunderstandings。Can use and understand fairly complex language，particularly in familiar situations），需要答对23-29题。
5分，(加拿大移民、新西兰移民分数线) 适当及格，可部分运用英语，在大多数情况下可应付全部的意思，虽然可能犯下许多错误，在本身领域内应可掌握基本的沟通（Modest User.Has partial command of the language，coping with overall meaning in most situations，though is likely to make many mistakes.Should be able to handle basic communication in own field），需要答对16-22题。
4分，(英国预科分数线)水平有限，只限在熟悉的状况下有基本的理解力，在理解与表达上常发生问题，无法使用复杂英语（Limited User. Basic competence is limited to familiar situations.Has frequent problems in understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language），醒酒药答对10-15题。
3分，水平极有限，在极熟悉的情况下，只能进行一般的沟通理解（Extremely Limited User. Conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur），需要答对4-9题。
2分，只能偶尔使用英语，除非在熟悉的情况下能使用单词和简短的短句表达最基本的信息，在说写方面有重大的障碍（Intermittent User. No real communication is possible except for the most basic information using isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate needs.Has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English），需要答对2-3题。
1分，不能通过，可能只能说几个单词，无法沟通（Non User. Essentially has no ability to use the language beyond possibly a few isolated words），需要答对1题。
